Australian Seafood Industries (ASI) was established to commercialise research on the selective breeding of Pacific oysters undertaken by the CSIRO, University of Tasmania and FRDC. ASI now owns and manages the breeding program for its Thoroughbred Oysters under licence. The Thoroughbred Oysters are now widely farmed in Tasmania and South Australia.
   
solux SOLUX is leading the way in the traffic light industry with the development of its range of high efficiency, extra low voltage (ELV) light emitting diode (LED) traffic signal lamps. SConsulting has developed eLearning training modules specifically for the financial services industry.  The systems are focussed on retail banking, bancassurance and agency training products.   Dave Lyneham has developed a remote monitoring and control device that logs and analyses data. One of the key features of Dave’s device is its accessibility via the internet.  The device can be used for various situations including aquaculture, tourism and parks management.
   
utas The University of Tasmania's School of Plant Science, developed a system of specific wavelength LEDs for plant research. In particular, the School has focused on accelerating plant growth using LEDs with a wavelength of 735nm. currawong Currawong Engineering is a smart, market leading engineering and manufacturing company that produces components and systems for use on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The company's products include a stabilised gimbal, which is attached to a UAV to enhance surveilance and take a stable picture while the vehicle is flying, and a very light weight fuel injection engine.
   
VI Vision Instruments is an electro-optical product developer and manufacturer. The company has developed a non-mydriatic (pharmacological pupil dilation is not required) portable retinal camera. The retinal camera captures digital images of both the retina and anterior parts of the eye, and includes software for managing the images on a PC.  The images of the eye are used to screen for and document eye disease. www.visioninstruments.com.au

Forestry Tasmania has developed the capacity to create forest models and digital terrain models using LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) imagery. Such techniques enable forest management to be undertaken across large areas of (remote) forest, with minimal on ground involvement.   Glenn Jacobson and Christian Narkowicz, from the UTAS School of Pharmacy, undertook clinical trials to assess the efficacy of a cream developed by retired pharmacist, Bob Armstrong, for the treatment of greasy heel in horses. The project with Springboard led to the formation of Xderma, a company which is now commercialising the greasy heel cream. www.xderma.com.au

Xderma develops topical formulations to treat animals and humans for a variety of bacterial and fungal skin conditions. The company has developed a treatment for equine pastern dermatitis, known as greasy heel. The treatment is a topical therapeutic formulation based on the essential oil from kunzea, a native shrub which grows in the north east of Tasmania. www.xderma.com.au

   
PCS Performance Cutting Supplies has developed a Waterjet Abrasive Sludge Removal System (ASR) for waterjet cutting machines. The ASR system allows the removal of garnet sludge from the waterjet machines to be performed quickly and efficiently. The ASR system removes garnet sludge from the internal base of the waterjet bath as it accumulates.
   
FD Fox Design developed a pilot plant for a mobile, automated biodiesel refinery. The plant can be placed directly at the source of the raw material, such as meat abattoirs or vegetable oil collection franchises.   Blue Wren has developed a new approach to classifying the shoreline for oil spill response purposes. That methodology enabled the development of a rapid assessment technique for locating parts of the shoreline vulnerable to climate change impacts, called the Smartline Process. Ultimately, Blue Wren will provide a wide range of environmental advisory and training services.
   
300k 300K Enterprises is a research and development company with a strong background in the mining industry. The company has designed a quick release adaptor for maintaining spigot mounted light fitting systems.
   
amc The Australian Maritime College (AMC) at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) is undertaking research into some new technology for the prawn fishing industry. This technology helps to reduce the amount of bycatch as well as increasing the overall prawn catch. AMC is investigating the commercial opportunities for this R&D. www.amc.edu.au
